Here’s how you can protect your computer

Keep in mind

Taking proper precautions helps to make sure your personal and financial information—as well as your identity—remains safe.

DOs

DON’Ts

Always memorize your passwords and make sure they are unique. Click here to access the Password Security Checklist.

Never share passwords with anybody, not even your closest friends or family. Never include passwords or pin numbers in emails, WhatsApp, SMS messages or social media – even if they are secure platforms.

Make sure to only ever download applications or software (such as printer drivers, games or business applications) from places you trust and recognize. Some applications and websites can be cloned by fraudsters.

Do not trust any applications or websites just because they look familiar or professional and make checking for any doubtful “signs” systematic before you perform any interaction with them.

Keep your computer up to date by installing operating system and software updates and equip it with comprehensive malware and virus protection software.

If you have an administrator's account and credentials, use them for creating new users and installing software, and don’t ignore updates from your operating system or internet security providers.

When you’re not using the Wi-Fi or Bluetooth, turn them off.

Make the usage of public Wi-Fi services a rare exception and do it only if necessary, and in the latter case never make financial transactions or send confidential information.

Regularly back up your data and keep your cloud storage access codes safe and secure.

Do not ignore security advice from your genuine virus protection provider and never share your cloud storage account passwords. If you start to see virus alert popups asking you to download a new Anti-Virus, simply ignore these messages, but make sure your genuine Anti-Virus is updated and working properly and run a full scan on your PC.

Limit the risk of fraud by creating standard user accounts for everybody at home.

Limit the admin account strictly to the creation of new users and the installation of new software. Do not browse the internet when using your admin account

Be sure to scan all USBs with an antivirus before you access them from your computer and start using them. Do not skip the scanning step even if you trust the party who shared the USB or device with you.
Take time to review the Bank’s Checklist on how to recognize a fraudulent email. Never convince yourself that fraud is something that only happens to other people. Fraud is widespread and can happen to you.
